House Joya
Rather than imposing a new identity, the intervention reveals the latent qualities of the house, allowing light, texture, and landscape to define a quietly sophisticated living experience.
Project Brief
House Joya is a residential project located in Curaçao, conceived as a refined tropical living environment where architecture, climate, and landscape work together as a unified spatial experience. The design emphasizes clarity, material harmony, and environmental comfort, allowing each space to respond naturally to the island’s intense light, warmth, and lush surroundings.
Interior and exterior areas are integrated as a continuous sequence through soft tonal palettes, carefully curated textures, and controlled openings that frame views of vegetation and sky. This strategy creates a calm and elegant atmosphere in which architecture becomes a subtle mediator between nature and daily life.

Design Philosophy
For House Joya, the design philosophy is rooted in the idea that architecture should quietly enhance its environment rather than compete with it. The intervention focuses on refining spatial relationships, softening transitions, and allowing light, texture, and proportion to shape the lived experience. In a climate where nature is constantly present, the project embraces openness while carefully moderating exposure, creating spaces that feel protected yet connected.
